DHL Express teams up with Central Airlines on 777Fs
China’s Central Airlines will operate two Boeing 777 freighters on behalf of DHL Express as the German firm looks to expand its China network.
The deal is the first time DHL has entered into an operating agreement with a Chinese cargo airline. The aircraft will have a dual DHL/China Airlines livery.
Explaining the tie up, DHL Express chief executive China Dongming Wu said: “The signing of the Letter of Intent is an important milestone for both parties in the process of establishing a partnership and is another important step for DHL Express to deliver its commitment to long term development in China, and to seek and deepen its cooperation with Chinese companies.
“The partnership with Central Airlines will further strengthen our capacity on intercontinental cargo routes from China while providing more convenience and higher efficiency for Chinese enterprises to expand their businesses globally”
Annie Hou, chairman of Central Airlines, said the additional aircraft would contribute to the development of cross border e-commerce and promote Chinese firms.
“China is not only the world’s factory, but also a global marketplace, and remains the largest shipper on North American Trans-Pacific trade routes in the DHL Express network, as well as Europe’s largest trading partner,” added Travis Cobb, executive vice president global network operations and aviation at DHL Express.
“The partnership with Central Airlines is part of our long-term investment in aviation in China to continue developing new routes, increase route flexibility and optimize our aviation network.”
Central Airlines operates a freighter fleet of eight Boeing 737F and two 777F freighters and offers more than 40 domestic and international cargo routes.
The carrier operates two 777 freighters on behalf of logistics firm YunExpress between Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Paris CDG Airport six to eight times per week.
Earlier this year, the carrier began operating a new cargo route between Shenzhen and Jakarta.
